A McKeesport man will serve up to another 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Tuesday in Westmoreland County court for failure to register as a convicted sex offender.

Eric Michael Britt, 53, was originally convicted in 2007 of sexual assault and was sentenced to serve three to six years in prison along with a lifetime requirement to register as a convicted sex offender upon his release from custody.

According to court records, Britt in March 2019 was on parole and living at the Alle-Kiski Pavilion, a halfway house in Arnold, when he absconded without written consent from state police and did not register his whereabouts.

Appearing by video Tuesday from SCI-Fayette, where he is serving 5 to 10 years for a similar offense, Britt pleaded guilty to one felony count of failure to register.

He was sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears to serve an additional 5½ to 12 years in prison. Prosecutors dismissed two additional felony counts of failure to verify an address.

Britt was given credit for time he has served in prison since his arrest on May 28, 2019.

According to court records, Britt in handwritten letters to the judge denied he was instructed to register as a sex offender and claimed documents indicated that requirement had been falsified by court officials.
