A section of Milltown Road in Penn Hills closed since early December is expected to reopen on Friday, a PennDOT spokeswoman said.

PennDOT closed Milltown between Newfield Drive, not far from Community Market, and Hulton Road, near JD Auto Body, on Dec. 3 while crews repaired two slides.

The two-lane road had been restricted to a single, alternating lane controlled by temporary traffic signals before it was closed entirely for the work.

The reopening of the road, originally expected in late January, was delayed by weather, the spokeswoman said.

Line painting and guardrail work are expected to be completed this week before the reopening on Friday, which will happen barring any unforeseen circumstances, the spokeswoman said.

An average of nearly 5,300 vehicles travel the road every day, according to PennDOT. The posted detour route is just over 4 miles long.
