More than 300 West Penn Power customers were left in the dark Monday morning after a dump truck took out multiple utility poles in Harmar, officials said.

West Penn Power spokesman Todd Meyers said the incident happened shortly after 6:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of Russellton Road.

Meyers said 308 customers initially had their power knocked out, but crews were able to restore power to most of them by 9:30 a.m.

About 60 customers in Cheswick, Harmar and Indiana Township remained without power shortly before 5 p.m., but were expected to have their power back on by 6 p.m., Meyers said.

Harmar police Chief Jason Domaratz said the truck, owned by trucking company David Tesone Group, was driving near the entrance of the business with its bed up when it took down wires and snapped two telephone poles.

Nobody was injured.

The road reopened around 5:45 p.m., Domaratz said.
