A motorcyclist who collided with the rear of an SUV in Harrison earlier this month has died from his injuries.

James P. “Jim Bob” Stivers, 45, of Buffalo Township, died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh on Saturday, according to family members.

Police said Stivers was traveling behind an SUV at around 4:30 p.m. on March 4 near the Walmart plaza off Freeport Road and Evergreen Drive when the vehicles collided.

The driver of the SUV, whose name was not released by authorities, remained on scene, police said. He was not injured.

The county’s homicide unit and collision reconstruction unit assisted in the investigation, police said.

County police on Tuesday said the incident is still under investigation and they are consulting with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office to determine if charges will be filed against the driver of the SUV.

Stivers’ daughter said he went into cardiac arrest after the crash and had to be resuscitated by first responders before he could be transported to the hospital by medical helicopter for treatment.

Stivers, who was the sole provider for his family, suffered extensive brain injuries, according to an online fundraiser organized to assist the family with expenses.
