Suspected serious injuries resulted from a Monday afternoon collision just south of the Harrison exit on northbound Route 28, state police said.

Two Armstrong County people were inside a Chevrolet Camaro that veered into the right lane, hit a guardrail and then was driven back into the left lane at about 2:50 p.m., police said. The crash sent up a spray of debris that hit a second car traveling behind the Camaro.

Camaro driver Rhonda Claypoole, 27, of Yatesboro, was flown to Allegheny General Hospital and passenger John Placek, 42, of Worthington, was flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital, according to police.

State police said the two had sustained serious injuries. Their conditions weren’t available Tuesday.

The driver of the other car, identified as Charles J. Thomas, 21, of New Kensington, wasn’t injured and his car sustained minor damage, police said.

The crash blocked traffic during the start of rush hour. Traffic was reopened at about 4 p.m., according to Allegheny County 911.
