A Lower Burrell music festival planned this month has been called off.

The city’s parks and recreation commission announced Wednesday that the Kick it at Kotecki music festival, planned for July 12 at K-9 Officer Derek Kotecki Memorial Park, has been canceled.

“This decision was not made lightly because we know how much these events mean to the community,” said Parks and Recreation Commission president Carley Logan. “Unforeseen personal circumstances have made it impossible to move forward without cutting corners.

“The hope is that circumstances will be different next year and we can try again.”

The city does have other music events still going on this summer. A concert series, Music in the Park, is underway at Burrell Lake Park, 201 Delberta Road.

Music in the Park is held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the second Friday in July and August. Upcoming concerts include the Nicole Belli Band on July 11 and Dave Stout on Aug. 8.

Those concerts are free to the public. Sweetie’s Ice Cream will be available for purchase.

The commission started Music in the Parks last summer.

“People really enjoyed ending their week with great, chilled music in a scenic park and reconnecting with people they knew in the community,” said Debbie Kurtik, commission secretary.
