Valley High School in New Kensington.

The New Kensington-Arnold School District has announced its graduation plans for the Class of 2020, altered by the covid-19 pandemic.

The district started delivering caps and gowns to its seniors at their homes on Friday morning, according to a letter to seniors and parents from Principal Patrick Nee Jr.

The students are being asked to wear their caps and gowns when they come to the high school on Tuesday to get their diploma and have their pictures taken. Student arrivals are being scheduled for that morning, by last name, starting at 10 a.m.

When they arrive, students are being asked to stay in their vehicles until it is their turn.

Graduating seniors and their families are being invited to participate in a parade through the district in their personal vehicles on Friday, June 5. The time has not yet been determined.

Parade participants will gather at the high school parking lot and be led through Arnold and New Kensington by the police departments, making their way through the cities before ending back at the high school.

The district is asking that each vehicle have no more than five people inside and consist of immediate family only.

A virtual graduation ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 5.
