New Kensington-Arnold adds 4 food-distribution locations
New Kensington-Arnold School District is making changes to where and when it is distributing meals to students and children while the district’s schools are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Superintendent John Pallone on Thursday said four new locations are being added to where lunch and breakfast items can be picked up. They include the Arnold police station, New Kensington city hall, the former Fort Crawford school and the former Saint Joseph school in New Kensington.
The new sites will be active starting Friday.
Meals will no longer be distributed from Valley Junior-Senior High School because nobody was coming there, Pallone said. Lunches will continue to be available at the district’s elementary schools — Martin, H.D. Berkey and Roy A. Hunt, he said.
Meals will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays. The hours had been until 2 p.m. when distributions started Tuesday, but Pallone said the district opted to cut the final hour.
For those who can’t get to one of the pick-up locations for medical reasons, Pallone said the district is allowing someone else to pick up the food for them or it will deliver it to them.
To arrange for a delivery, residents can contact food service Director Kayla Solomon at 724-335-4401 ext. 1035.
Pallone said the district will provide food for over the weekend with meals distributed on Friday.
Meals are available free of charge for any New Kensington-Arnold School District student and anyone under age 18 living in Arnold and New Kensington.
The district distributed about 200 lunches on Tuesday and the number has gone up since then, Pallone said.
