A New Kensington man is accused of assaulting a caregiver with the cut-off handle of a shovel.

Police charged Marvin Tyree Hall, 36, of Constitution Boulevard with two felony counts of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of simple assault.

Police said the assault was reported shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

In a criminal complaint against Hall, police said the alleged victim told officers that one of his clients, Hall, had just assaulted him in Proctor Alley.

According to the complaint, the man said Hall was upset over a cellphone. He said Hall approached him while he was sitting on the tailgate of his truck and began yelling at him while holding the cut-off handle of a shovel.

Police said the handle was about 43 inches long.

The man said Hall came at him with the club and hit him twice in the face and head. Police said the man had a large cut on his right eye and nose, and his face was covered in blood.

The man told police that Hall tried to gouge out his eyes while he was attempting to restrain him. During the struggle, the man said his wife’s rental car was damaged.

Hall fled the area before police arrived. Officers found him walking on Constitution Boulevard near the YMCA, where he was arrested.

Police said they found the shovel handle near the back of Hall’s address.

Hall did not have an attorney listed in court records.

Hall was denied bail when arraigned before New Kensington District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. and was sent to the Westmoreland County jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 28.
