A New Kensington man died at the scene of a crash at the Tarentum interchange on Route 28 early Saturday, according to state police.

State police identified the driver as Dominic E. Montemurro, 28.

According to state police, the single-vehicle crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. on the southbound Route 28 off ramp in Fawn, Exit 14.

Police said Montemurro was driving a pickup that went off the road, slid sideways about 300 feet through the grass covered median and hit a tree. The pickup hit the tree at its 9 o’clock position and then rotated counterclockwise around the tree, coming to rest two feet from the first point of impact.

Montemurro was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. State police did not list any passengers in the vehicle with him.

No information on the cause of the crash was provided.
