New Kensington man identified as Tarentum Bridge jumper

Eureka Fire Rescue personnel launch a boat under the Tarentum Bridge after a man jumped from the bridge Tuesday.

A man who jumped to his death from the Tarentum Bridge on Tuesday has been identified.

The victim was Thomas Peter Link, 68, of New Kensington, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Link jumped into the Allegheny River shortly before 11:30 a.m. and died before he could be taken to a hospital, according to paramedics at the scene.

Tarentum police were not immediately available on Wednesday.

Rescuers reported reaching Link within a few minutes, but they needed assistance removing him from the river, which was still swollen from recent heavy rains.

Eureka Fire Rescue EMS pulled Link to a boat launch beneath the bridge with the assistance of a New Kensington Fire Department river rescue crew.
