New Kensington man jailed following alleged domestic dispute, drug discovery
A New Kensington man is behind bars after an alleged domestic dispute last week.
Police charged Anthony T. Swann Jr., 23, with strangulation, simple assault, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with evidence and drug possession with intent to deliver.
Swann was unable to post $100,000 bail and is being held in the Westmoreland County jail, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 7 before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.
New Kensington police on Friday night responded to Haser Drive for a reported domestic dispute, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office. Officers heard screaming when they arrived, and saw Swann put a gun into his waistband, the DA’s office said.
As more officers arrived on scene, Swann tossed the gun behind a police car and complied with police commands, the DA’s office said..
Police detained Swann and found a baggie of marijuana in one pocket, and another baggie of suspected crack cocaine in the other, according to the DA’s office. Investigators said the drugs’ packaging makes it consistent with the sale of narcotics, the DA’s office said.
The woman involved in the domestic dispute had swollen lips, marks on her shoulders and red marks around her neck, the DA’s office said.
She told police she was sleeping and woke up to Swann attacking her, police said.
