New Kensington police say Arnold woman dropped infant on head
New Kensington police arrested an Arnold woman after, they say, she admitted to dropping an infant on his head.
Police charged Kendrianna Floree Neville, 27, with endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and public drunkenness.
According to a police affidavit, officers responded to the area of 11th Street near the Kensington Arms Apartments around 5 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a woman carrying a child and possibly under the influence.
Police said officers found Neville sitting on the ground holding the child and crying hysterically, saying, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
When an officer asked her what happened, police said that Neville said, “I dropped him on his head.”
Police said Neville was visibly under the influence of alcohol, with bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech.
Police said the boy is about 6 months old. There was dirt on the back of his head and pieces of leaves and dirt near his mouth, the affidavit said.
Medics were called to evaluate the boy. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
On Friday, New Kensington police Chief Robert Deringer said the boy had suffered a skull fracture. He was released from the hospital Thursday in stable condition, and was in the custody of the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau.
Neville did not have an attorney listed in court records. Her bond was set at $20,000 during an arraignment Wednesday night, and she was sent to the Westmoreland County jail.
Neville’s preliminary hearing before New Kensington District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. is scheduled for Oct. 27.
