Lower Burrell Councilwoman Carley Logan hopes a new program the city is starting is more than just a walk in the park.

The city is launching a free “Nature Neighbors Walking Club” this spring.

“I want it to be an opportunity for people to make connections in the community,” Logan said. “No one is going to be walking alone.”

Logan plans for walks to be weekly and last about an hour; an exact time or place hasn’t been set. She anticipates more information to be shared on the city’s Parks and Recreation Facebook page once those details are finalized.

Logan is looking for a “lead walker” to coordinate the walks. People interested can contact her at clogan@cityoflowerburrell.com to volunteer.

“Whoever it is is going to be personable, open to communicating, reliable and friendly,” Logan said.

All ages and paces of walking are welcome.

No registration is required. Walks are free.

“It will be: show up, enjoy the company of others who enjoy walking, and go home feeling good,” Logan said.

The idea of a walking club stemmed from community feedback at the “Community Connections” event held last spring at Charles A. Huston Middle School, Logan said.

The Parks and Recreation Commission polled community members in attendance to ask what events or programs they would like to have in their community.

“The walking club was the clear winner of all of them,” Logan said. “There was no specific age for it.

“Teens were just as excited of the idea as adults and seniors.”
