Two new faces will replace two incumbents on the Springdale Township board of commissioners after winning Tuesday’s election.

Republicans Tim Basilone and Bradley Stanzione won the two open seats, replacing incumbents Tim Sweet and Shirley Redman, both Democrats.

Basilone led in votes and received 31.9%, according to unofficial results. Stanzione followed with 28.5%. Sweet received 19.8% and Redman received 19.6%.

Sweet and Redman were elected in 2017.

Basilone and Stanzione are new to elected political office, but they have been involved in civic affairs within the township.

Basilone, 62, said he appreciates residents having confidence in him. He looks forward to getting work done come January.

“I look forward to working with other members of commission, and we have a real opportunity to do some good things,” he said.

A former Allegheny Valley School Board member, Basilone expects the commissioner process to be similar to the work of a school board member . He will stress the importance of transparency and accountability.

Stanzione, 36, is no stranger to township operations, as he is on the zoning board. He wanted to become a commissioner to branch out his contributions to the township. He hopes to add a fresh, young perspective to the board.

He said seeing the votes cast for him show that the community has faith in him.

“I am just looking forward to help out the community,” he said.
