Allegheny County Police confirmed that a man shot in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood on Wednesday night was the victim of a kidnapping earlier that evening.
But police say the kidnapping did not happen in Plum, as originally reported.
Instead, police say, preliminary information shows the victim traveled to an undisclosed location in Allegheny County and was kidnapped there.
“Detectives do not believe the initial incident occurred in Plum Borough,” a statement from the county said.
The incident began when Plum police received a call from a person they did not identify, saying his brother had been kidnapped by two armed people who were demanding a ransom for his brother’s return.
About an hour later, just after 7 p.m., Pittsburgh police responded to the 900 block of Deely Street in Greenfield for reports of an altercation and gunfire.
There, the victim was found shot in the chest, police said. He was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police believe the victim traveled to a location in Allegheny County they did not specify to meet a person he met in Pittsburgh a few days earlier. When the victim arrived at the location, police say, he was confronted by multiple people who abducted him.
“The individuals drove the male victim to multiple locations throughout Allegheny County prior to the shooting incident on Deely Street,” according to the statement by county police, who were called to assist in the investigation.
No arrests have been made, police said.
