A train and tractor-trailer collided near Papercraft and Fairview avenues in Blawnox on Friday morning.

A 195-car train and a tractor trailer collided Friday morning in Blawnox.

Crews were dispatched just before 8:30 a.m. to the Fairview Avenue rail crossing, near its intersection with Papercraft Avenue, according to first responders.

Blawnox Deputy Fire Chief Matt Kauper said the tractor-trailer was leaving the American Beverage Company and turned onto Fairview Avenue when it was hit by the train. The collision disconnected the tractor from the trailer, he said.

Kauper was not sure what caused the crash.

No one was injured, Kauper said.

The crash destroyed a railroad crossing signal on the Papercraft Avenue side of the tracks.

The trailer was empty, Kauper said. The stopped train extended from Center Avenue in Blawnox to Center Avenue in Aspinwall. Kauper estimated all crossings within that length to be closed for a “couple more hours.”

The train was carrying mostly grain and wheat products, Kauper said.

Ferra’s Towing of Sharpsburg towed the trailer from the scene.
