A fire tore through a Springdale home Sunday morning, causing no injuries but gutting much of the residence.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 300 block of Murtland Street at around 10:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

A member of Allegheny County Fire Marshall’s investigative team remained at the scene a few hours after firefighters had quelched the blaze.

Abigail Gartner, a spokeswoman for Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, said Sunday it’s too early to comment on what caused the fire.

The blaze is under investigation, she confirmed.

Bill Roesch, who lives near the scene of the fire, said he was impressed by the rapid response Sunday morning from Springdale Volunteer Fire Department.

“That department got there real quick,” said Roesch, who was outside with a neighbor when he heard the fire engine’s siren. “Their initial attack was phenomenal. They went in and knocked that thing down in seconds.”

“I’ve seen a lot of fires,” added the retired police officer. “And they handled that amazingly.”

Springdale police deferred questions to the fire department’s leadership, which did not return phone calls Sunday seeking comment.
