Freeport residents can mostly expect business as usual in 2026 if the borough opts to pass its proposed budget on Monday.

The budget doesn’t opt for any tax hikes, though residents’ sewage surcharge would go up just under $2.

The surcharge would be bumped to $48.71 from its current $47, a 4% increase.

The property tax rate would remain at 15 mills. The owner of a home assessed at $100,000 would continue to pay $1,500 a year to the borough.

The total income in the proposed budget is set at $1.86 million, while expenses are projected at $1.85 million.

Much of those funds — $665,000 — would be earmarked for the borough’s general fund.

Primary expenses from that fund would include Freeport’s $243,000 contribution to South Armstrong Regional Police, $110,000 for public works salaries and $35,000 for road projects.

Freeport’s rubbish fund sits balanced at $248,600, and its sewage fund amounts to about $502,000.

The borough is expected to vote on the budget at a special meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m.
