Taxpayers will not see an increase in taxes in Allegheny Valley School District’s proposed $23.8 million final budget for the 2022-23 school year.

School board officials voted, 8-0, to approve the budget during a May 17 meeting. The budget is a 4.09% increase from the 2021-22 budget of $22.8 million. The millage will be 20.8.

“It has been my honor to be president of such a hardworking school board that is willing to put in hours to bring about these budgets without a tax increase,” school board President Larry Pollick said.

The district has been able to meet its needs without increasing taxes for 10 years, he said.

“Our residents here take education very seriously and want the best for their children, and, right now, we are doing that,” Pollick said.

Allegheny Valley spokeswoman Jan Zastawniak said additional funding from the State Property Tax Reduction Allocations and federal American Rescue Plan will balance the budget.

The increases in the budget can be attributed to costs of retirement, health care, new programs, salaries, special education, tuition, transportation and debt service.

“The district is proud to have put together a budget that continues to support a solid education for our students,” Zastawniak said.

The board will vote on the final budget at its meeting at 7 p.m. June 21. A printed copy of the budget may be obtained by contacting Hamsini Rajgopal, director of finance, at hrajgopal@avsd.k12.pa.us.
