Northbound Route 28's Exit 7 ramp to Delafield Avenue to be closed through June 29
The Northbound Route 28 ramp to Delafield Avenue (Exit 7) will be closed through June 29 for ramp reconstruction.
The work is a part of a $15.32 million project to improve 3.5 miles of Route 28 between the Delafield Avenue exit and the Harmar Township line, according to PennDOT.
The ramp was closed May 11 to allow mainline Route 28 work to occur through mid-June.
To detour the closure, from northbound Route 28, continue past the closed ramp. Take the Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road off-ramp (Exit 8) then go right toward Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road. Turn right onto Freeport Road and then follow Freeport Road back to Delafield Avenue.
Construction includes minor road widening of the southbound lanes near the Freeport Road on-ramp interchange to allow for the existing lanes to be reassigned. There also will be reconstruction of the Delafield Avenue ramps, concrete preservation work on the Fox Chapel ramps, milling and paving work on the RIDC Park ramps, and bridge preservation work on all structures within the project limits.
During peak travel times, there will be single-lane restrictions with crews maintaining at least two lanes of traffic in each direction, and at least one lane in each direction during off-peak hours.
The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2022.
