Oakmont officials recently added an email option to the borough’s alert system in an effort to reach more residents.

The borough last year launched a free mobile phone text alert notification to provide emergency and nonemergency communications to residents and businesses.

Borough Manager Scot Fodi said they added another option within the past few weeks.

“Not all residents possess mobile devices that accept text messages or smart phones to follow links by their own choosing,” Fodi said. “This give us a means to spread a message to those who use email more so than text messaging.”

People can sign up for email alerts via the borough website, oakmontborough.com, and click the “Notify Me” icon on the front page.

That links to the alert center page where participants enter their first name, email address and click “sign up.”

A confirmation email is then send to that address. There is no deadline to sign up.
