Oakmont officials award 2022 road repair project to Youngblood Paving
Oakmont officials have tapped a Wampum-based business to pave several borough roads this year.
Council unanimously voted March 21 to award a $290,450 contract to Youngblood Paving.
Youngblood was the lowest of six bidders, and this is its first time working for Oakmont, according to borough officials.
Borough manager Scot Fodi said he had experience working with Youngblood in Butler, and the company did exceptional work.
Streets to be paved include:
• Fairways Drive from Pinehurst Lane to Village Drive.
• Village Drive from Pinehurst Lane to Fairways Drive.
• Virginia Avenue from Fifth to Sixth streets.
• Fourth Street from California to College avenues.
• Gloucester Court from Commons Drive to the cul-de-sac.
• An unnamed alley from Orchard Avenue to the dead end.
• Poplar Way from Isabella Street to the dead end.
• South Ada Trail at Riverside Park.
Paving is expected to begin in May or June, depending on paperwork and issuance of performance bonds. Construction is expected to last between 60 and 90 days.
The borough budgeted $350,000 for paving this year.
Oakmont roads are evaluated annually with the assistance of Senate Engineering, public works crews and borough officials. The borough created a five-year road program in 2018.
Fodi said he plans to work with the aforementioned teams to update the program for the next five years.
“I think it’s important for planning purposes and budget purposes,” Lindsay Osterhout, council president, said about the street analysis. “Having a list like that helps us keep in mind which roads need repaved, and it also lets us assess which ones need attention earlier than others. It’s very helpful organizationally.”
Residents and property owners can report road problems via a pothole reporting form posted on the borough’s website, oakmontborough.com, or by calling the borough office at 412-828-3232.
