Oakmont welcomes new Dollar General location
Oakmont residents will have a new place to shop in 2026.
The site of the former Rite Aid on Allegheny River Boulevard will be reopened as a Dollar General next year.
According to a Dec. 5 Instagram post by Bennett Williams Commercial Real Estate agent Adam Hagerman, the building was officially leased to Dollar General earlier this month. The central Pennsylvania-based agency has been dealing with multiple former Rite Aid buildings across the state.
“(It is) one of many former Rite Aids we’ve been leasing,” the post said. “Oakmont is an incredibly tough suburb of Pittsburgh and we started tracking this Rite Aid during the first bankruptcy. When we got wind in April of bankruptcy two looming, us and the team (Dollar General) jumped into action to see what we could figure out.”
A call to Hagerman’s office Monday morning was not immediately returned.
According to the post, the store is expected to open in early 2026. According to a statement from Dollar General, the company anticipates breaking ground on the site in the coming weeks.
“Our customers are at the center of all that we do, and meeting their needs is our top priority when choosing store locations. In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers’ price, value and selection needs,” the statement said in part. “We believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic benefits including additional access to affordable products for customers; the creation of new jobs for local residents and career development opportunities for our employees; the generation of additional tax revenue for the City; and the ability for local nonprofits, schools and libraries to apply for literacy and education grants through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.”
According to several business-tracking websites, there are almost 980 Dollar General locations in Pennsylvania.
The state ranks seventh for most Dollar Generals, according to web data site Statistica. Texas has the most stores with almost 2,000.
“Oakmont Borough issued a zoning permit to Dollar General in mid-December. Like Rite Aid, the use, retail, is a Use by Right in the Commercial Zoning District,” Borough Manager Scot Fodi told TribLive in a text message. “Dollar General also applied for and was issued construction permits to complete some interior renovations in the building.”
Fodi said he did not know when Dollar General would be open for business.
