Green space and recreation are among the issues being addressed by planners from Fox Chapel and O’Hara Township.

Two communities are working together to create a long-range plan in Allegheny County.

More than 1,300 residents of Fox Chapel and O’Hara Township completed online and paper questionnaires last year to assess community needs and determine how well officials were meeting them.

Survey results will help to shape decisions concerning development, land use and budget priorities.

Residents are invited to attend a public update May 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in O’Hara Township Community Park. Free shaved ice will be offered.

Officials from both communities created the questionnaire last June and residents had about 40 days to submit their responses. Participants remained anonymous.

The breakdown of responses by community included 650 responses from O’Hara residents and 491 responses from Fox Chapel residents.

A total of 140 respondents chose not to identify their community.

The data was validated by community planners, Pashek+MTR.

Residents of both communities listed community safety was their top community planning concern.

Two of the lowest-ranking community aspects listed by both O’Hara and Fox Chapel residents were places of worship and the Lauri Ann West Community Center.

The public will have the opportunity to provide input on key issues that include transportation, greenways and stormwater, development and redevelopment, traffic management and recreation and programming.
