A New Kensington man was shot and killed Friday night on 11th Street in the city.

Police were called to a shooting scene in the 400 block in a parking lot near the Kensington Arms Apartments shortly after 10:30 p.m., according to Westmoreland County 911.

Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli identified the victim Saturday as James Michael Hayes, 31, of New Kensington.

New Kensington police Chief Robert Deringer said Saturday via text that no arrests had been made. Deringer and Mayor Tom Guzzo referred all media requests to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.

Ziccarelli issued a statement that said city police and county detectives are investigating.

Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson said an autopsy will be performed on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the New Kensington Police Department at 724-339-7533.
