Tarentum electric crews were working to restore power Monday morning after at least one utility pole was sheared in half and two others were knocked down.
“We are aware of it and are doing our best to get it back,” council President Scott Dadowski said.
The power went out at about 4 a.m., he said.
Manager Michael Nestico said a garbage truck took out several power lines on East Third Avenue and also knocked down three utility poles.
Power was partially restored by 10 a.m., but crews were still working on the balance of the outages.
Tarentum operates its own electric distribution system.
It was not immediately known how many customers were impacted but some businesses along Corbet Street had to temporarily close, according to posts on social media.
Nestico said Tarentum electric has to install three new poles with accompanying crossarms and then reset the power lines on the new units.
He expected electric to be fully restored Monday afternoon.
