Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Greensburg Road in Lower Burrell.
Lower Burrell police Detective Steve Aulerich said the victim was a 62-year-old man from Plum. His name was not released.
The incident was reported about 1 p.m. Wednesday near the city’s Kinloch neighborhood. Traffic was rerouted just before the Glassmere Fuel station on the Parnassus Triangle side of the crash and through Kinloch from the eastern side of the scene as police investigated.
Authorities received the report in the afternoon, but Aulerich said the accident occurred early in the morning. He couldn’t narrow it down to an exact time, nor could he confirm who called 911.
Aulerich said the driver of the vehicle has been identified and is cooperating with the investigation.
A state police forensics team and personnel from the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office responded in the afternoon.
A white Ford pickup with front-end damage was visible at the scene in front of PSE Asphalt and Concrete Construction on Greensburg Road.
The road had been reopened as of 6 p.m.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Aulerich at 724-339-4287, ext. 266.
