Traffic will be restricted on the Tarentum Bridge next week, PennDOT announced.

The right lane carrying westbound traffic from the bridge to Freeport Road on the northern end of the span over East 4th Avenue in Tarentum will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

One lane will stay open as crews do drainage work to prepare for upcoming work on the ramp.

A $3.24 million rehabilitation project on the bridge will include a new asphalt overlay, steel repairs, bearing and expansion dam replacement, concrete repairs and painting. Westbound traffic will be restricted while crews work.

In the spring, drivers can expect 15-minute rolling stoppages on both sides of the bridge for bridge jacking operations.

During the summer, PennDOT spokeswoman Yasmeen Manyisha said the bridge will be completely closed in both directions for 16 days, during which traffic will be detoured.

Manyisha said the closure should happen in early summer, but the date depends on factors such as the progress of work and weather.

The overall project is expected to be finished in the fall.

About 30,000 vehicles cross the bridge over the Allegheny River each day.
