Since a landslide closed Lover’s Leap Road in Gilpin last week, PennDOT has re-opened one lane, the agency announced Wednesday.

The road had been closed in both directions from Mule Hollow Road to Pitt Street.

Currently Lover’s Leap is one-lane with a stop sign in both directions. The open lane is on stable bedrock, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT recently reviewed the road and found that the outer lane on the slope slide is unstable, according to Jamie Arehart, PennDOT spokeswoman.

With more rain, PennDOT expects more embankment to come down.

“The slope has to be studied, drilled, and a solution engineered,” she said.
