Thomas Bowers has lived at his home on Goldfinch Drive in Washington Township for nearly three decades and weathered storms plenty worse than the steady rain that fell across the region all day Friday.

“I’ve had water all the way around the house before,” Bowers said. “But the houses around here are also set a little higher than they normally would be.”

Bowers lives in the Meadows Mobile Home Park off Pine Run Road. And the creek for which the road is named was less of a run and more of a river Friday afternoon.

Floodwaters created islands out of all the freshly mulched trees lining Woodland Drive, and stormwater roared past an old mill wheel along one of three small tributaries leading into Pine Run.

Those three streams surround the mobile park on three of four sides, and, several neighbors said, a long, steady rain typically results in flooding.

Inside the park, a corner of Goldfinch Drive near Bowers’ house was flooded.

“The pipes leading to the creek start to back up once the water gets high enough,” Bowers said. “That starts pushing water back up through the drains on Goldfinch.”

Emergency responders said several residents to whom they’d spoken were not planning to evacuate.
