Pittsburgh man jailed after New Kensington police say he attacked woman in vehicle
A man from Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood was sent to the Westmoreland County jail on Monday after he was arraigned on charges stemming from an alleged assault of a New Kensington woman at her home and in her vehicle.
New Kensington police on Sunday charged Joshua Adam Shaw, 32, with simple assault, harassment and driving with a suspended license.
Officers said the woman reported the alleged assault Sunday morning at their station.
According to court records, the woman told police Shaw showed up about 6 p.m. Saturday at her home on Freeport Road. During an argument, she said, Shaw dumped a drink on her and told her to get into her vehicle and drive him, according to a criminal complaint.
She said Shaw began dumping the contents of her purse out the window as they drove on McCargo Street, police said. The woman said Shaw punched her twice in the face and head when she pulled over, and then pushed her to the ground when she got out, the complaint said.
After the woman picked up her belongings, they got back in her vehicle with Shaw driving and trying to get back to his home in Pittsburgh, the complaint said. The woman said Shaw threatened to slap her if she did not answer his questions fast enough; she said he struck her in the face multiple times, causing a black eye, according to the complaint.
Police said Shaw’s driver’s license is suspended because of a DUI and that he is listed as a repeat offender.
Shaw was arraigned before New Kensington District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr., who set Shaw’s bail at $25,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10.
