Police believe an armed kidnapping in Plum is connected to a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood on Wednesday night.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Eliza Durham said the department learned of the armed kidnapping reported to Plum police at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
A family member told Plum police that his brother had been kidnapped by two armed people who were demanding ransom money, Durham said. Pittsburgh police began tracking the man’s cellphone, which was last identified in the Hazelwood area.
At 7:10 p.m., a witness called 911 to report several men involved in an altercation, followed by the sound of gunshots, Durham said.
Responding officers found a man in the 900 block of Deely Street shot once in the chest. He told officers the people drove away from the scene following the shooting.
The shooting victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition, Durham said.
“The incidents are believed to be related,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing.
