Ashley Boyers is climbing up the ladder of Plum School District administration.
The district’s school board promoted Boyers from assistant to deputy superintendent on Tuesday.
Boyers said the new role will see him take greater oversight of district finances, facilities and transportation.
As assistant, Boyers said he was responsible for overseeing Pivik Elementary, Holiday Park Intermediate and Plum Middle schools.
But in his new position, Boyers will have general oversight of all schools in the district, he said.
School Board President Renee Richardson said Boyers has been successful during his time at Plum, pointing to his leadership during school safety improvements and Plum’s “Portrait of a Graduate” project.
“His results have been strong,” Richardson said. “The board has really enjoyed working with Dr. Boyers.”
The new role will give Boyers a broader vision into district workings, which Richardson said was a move toward succession planning and stability.
“This is a way to make sure there’s someone there and not an absence,” Richardson said.
Boyers said he he’s been open about his goal of one day becoming Plum’s superintendent. This promotion, he said, is the next step toward that goal.
“I really do thoroughly enjoy serving this community,” he said.
Starting as a principal at then-O’Block Junior High School in 2018, Boyers was promoted to assistant superintendent in 2023.
Richardson said Boyers’ promotion would not change the role of his counterpart, Assistant Superintendent Matthew Thomas, and the district would not immediately seek to hire another assistant superintendent.
The new role also comes with a raise. Boyers will now be compensated to the effect of $177,000, up from his starting salary of $140,000 as assistant.
Boyers received a bachelor of arts in elementary and special education from Waynesburg College and a master of education in administrative leadership and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also received his principal certification.
He earned a doctor of education degree in leadership and administration and his superintendent letter of eligibility from Point Park University.
