Firefighters were called to the scene of this house fire Tuesday night in the 800 block of Mount Hood Drive in Plum.

A Plum woman was sent to the hospital March 3 after her home was gutted by fire.

An Allegheny County dispatcher said the one-alarm blaze at 845 Mount Hood Drive began shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Holiday Park Fire Chief Jim Sims said the woman and her boyfriend were out of the house when he arrived. He did not want to speculate on what happened to the woman. She was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Two cats were reportedly inside and it was unclear whether they made it out.

“When we arrived we had heavy fire coming from the rear of the home,” Sims said. “The fire extended into the living room and out the front door.”

The fire was contained in about 20 minutes and there was no damage to neighboring houses.

The chief said there is extensive fire and smoke damage inside the building, but did not want to speculate on it being a total loss.

Several borough departments and Monroeville firefighters responded.

Crews used Plum ladder trucks to fight the fire. There was a fire hydrant across the street, and the chief said, “We had a good water supply.”

An Allegheny County fire marshal was called in to investigate.

Crews began clearing the scene shortly after midnight.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help with recovery costs.
