A Plum man is accused of fleeing from police this week after coming home to find officers serving a search warrant at his house.

Police charged Mitchell Patrick Stewart, 31, on Wednesday with a misdemeanor count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and several summary traffic offenses, including driving with a suspended license, running stop signs and reckless driving.

In a criminal complaint, police said officers were serving a search warrant Tuesday morning on Stewart’s home in the 2200 block of Chapparal Drive.

Just before officers left, police said Stewart arrived home in a landscaping work truck. Upon cresting a hill at Chapparal Drive and Summer Haven Court and seeing officers, police said Stewart turned around at a high speed and fled.

Police said officers knew Stewart’s license to drive was suspended because of a DUI.

According to the complaint, an officer pursued Stewart, who was seen traveling at high speeds on Abers Creek Road toward Holiday Park Drive. They say he drove through three stop signs and into an opposing lane to pass a borough public works vehicle.

Police said Stewart pulled over in the 4700 block of Havana Drive, where he got out of his vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police said Stewart told them, “I’m sorry. I saw you and just freaked out.”

Stewart did not have an attorney listed in court records. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 11.

In a separate case, Plum police charged Stewart on Thursday with felony and misdemeanor drug charges, according to court records.
