Among 11 candidates who were seeking four open seats on Plum School Board, eight emerged from Tuesday’s primary elections.

Though nearly every candidate was cross-filed to run in both races, Plum Democrats and Republicans did not elect a single common candidate. Included in the eight victors are several board incumbents as well as some new faces.

In the Democratic primary, Jill Klipa earned the greatest proportion of the 8,774 votes cast with 18.39%. She was followed by Adam Hill with 14.21%, Tiffany Hyde with 13.81% and Geter Sloan with 11%.

Republican voters opted for current board President Angela Anderson, who earned 16.47% of 5,943 votes. The next highest vote-getters were Beverly Purcell with 15.74%, Megan Chuderewicz with 15.73% and Thomas Feeney with 13.71%.

Klipa, Hyde and Sloan are each Democratic newcomers, while Hill served on the board from 2019-2023.

In addition to Anderson, Chuderewicz is also a current board member, and Purcell was appointed to fill a board vacancy in April. Feeney, who sought to fill the same vacancy, would be a new face on the board.

The primaries also rendered board incumbent and retired Plum teacher Ronald Sakolsky a lame duck. He placed seventh among Democrats with 7.63% of votes and fifth on the Republican ballot with 11.36%.

Michael Devine, who served on the board from 2019-2023, failed to earn enough votes to advance in either race, placing fifth among Democrats and sixth with Republicans. He earned just under 9% in both races.

Gary Motor, who ran solely on the Republican ballot, placed eighth in the race, earning less than 5% of votes cast.

Anderson, 47, is a Republican working in education management with a doctorate from Regent University.

Chuderewicz, 44, is a Republican sales and marketing manager with master’s degrees from Chatham and Waynesburg universities.

Purcell, 65, is a retired special education teacher with a bachelor’s degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is a Republican.

Feeney, 48, is a Republican carpenter with two associates degrees.

Hill, 48, is a Democratic systems engineer with a bachelor’s degree from Penn State.

Hyde, 37, is a Democratic licensing analyst for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board with a bachelor’s degree from what was then known as California University of Pennsylvania.

Klipa, 38, is a Democratic office clerk with a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University.

Sloan, 34, is a Democrat working in the financial sector with a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the then-California University of Pennsylvania.

The general election is Nov. 4.
