Full-time school nurses will continue to be present in all of Plum’s schools, the district says.

Despite some online concern about the district’s staffing levels, Superintendent Rick Walsh said he’s committed to maintaining nurses at each school.

Each of the five district schools has a certified school nurse in addition to two other registered nurses employed by the district, Walsh said.

“We surpass what the state expectations are,” the superintendent said.

The district is cross-training its nurses at different buildings to prepare for nurse absences caused by sick days or vacation, which may have proved to be a point of confusion among some people.

In a statement, Plum said the training was an effort to “strengthen preparedness and proactively plan for coverage.”

“Importantly, no nursing positions have been eliminated, and coverage has not been reduced,” the statement said.

The district also contracts with a third-party group, if needed, to provide substitute nurses.
