Repairs on Plum High School’s leaky roof will start in a little more than a week, after the district’s school board voted to approve the emergency $250,000 bill Tuesday.
Plum Director of Facilities and Grounds Shelley Shaffer previously told TribLive repairs would begin May 1 and last about three weeks.
The work will focus on three small areas of the roof ahead of a future planned project that would replace larger swaths of the roof, she said.
Shaffer said the leaks affect sensitive areas of the school like the IT room, television production classrooms and the band room, which house electronics or musical instruments, all of which could be damaged or destroyed by water.
For now, she said, the district is using buckets and a drain diverter to mitigate the leaks.
John Zahorchak, the district’s finance and operations director, said if the district receives a grant it previously applied for, it would seek to retroactively apply the funds to the roof expenses.
The emergency repairs are set to be completed by Parks Township-based Strongland Roofing Systems.
