Plum Borough School District announced Sunday that Superintendent Brendan Hyland was resigning to take the same post at North Allegheny School District.
Hyland’s resignation takes effect June 30.
The announcement came via a press release emailed to parents from school board.
“Dr. Hyland has been an integral asset and catalyst to data-driven improvement in creating an advanced and greatly improved culture of education, fine arts, career training, special education, and mental health for students and families in Plum Borough,” according to the statement. “During his tenure, Dr. Hyland and his administrative team have made great strides in making sure that our students achieve their greatest potential, and that the district measures these outcomes and strategically plans for the future. We thank him for his efforts, expertise, and commitment and wish him and his family the very best.”
Deputy Superintendent Rick Walsh will be appointed interim superintendent on Tuesday. Walsh had been hired as assistant superintendent in 2018.
“Dr. Walsh is a proven and accomplished leader in education, school safety, and policy development,” the board said in its statement. “This will ensure a seamless transition to our superior education standards and goals. Dr. Walsh’s commitment to the Plum Borough School District is unquestionable, and we look forward to continuing our work on making our school district one of the very best in Pennsylvania.”
The board said questions regarding the superintendent situation should be emailed to the board’s attention at SchoolBoard@pbsd.net.
