PNC Bank is closing its Harmar branch on March 19.

PNC will consolidate that branch on Anchor Road near the Target department store with one less than 4 miles away at 2010 Pittsburgh Mills Blvd. in Frazer.

“We constantly evaluate our branches, together with our other available channels of banking, to ensure that they are most effectively meeting our customers’ needs,” said Marcey Zwiebel, PNC director of corporate public relations. “As a result of these evaluations, the decision was made to consolidate the Harmar branch with the Pittsburgh Mills branch.”

Part of the decision, according to Zwiebel, is that an increasing number of PNC customers are doing their banking online and via mobile devices, ATM and phone. She said about 75% of customers used non-teller channels for the majority of their transactions during the third quarter of 2020. Also, two-thirds of deposit transactions were made via ATM and mobile channels.

“These shifts in the way customers are conducting their banking transactions are important inputs that inform our branch consolidation decisions,” Zwiebel said.

PNC employees at the Harmar branch will likely be reassigned to other positions within the bank.

No plans have been announced to consolidate other branches near the one in Harmar branch at this time, according to Zwiebel. She said decisions about branch consolidations are communicated to customers 90 days in advance.
