Arnold police said they found a 19-year-old man carrying a stolen handgun after officers investigated shots they heard fired in the city Sunday night.
Demontre J. Chambers allegedly matched the description of a man Arnold police saw running from the area of the shooting. A New Kensington officer arrested Chambers after seeing him getting into a vehicle leaving the area and stopping it.
According to Arnold police, the incident started when officers were clearing a call near Stop-N-Go on Constitution Boulevard shortly after 7:30 p.m. and heard about eight shots fired behind the store.
When officers pulled into the 1500 block of Proctor Alley, they saw two men walking toward their marked vehicle. One of the men cut up through a yard and ran toward the 1500 block of Kenneth Avenue.
Officers detained three men who were in the alley.
Immediately after Arnold police radioed out a description of the man seen running from the area, a New Kensington officer allegedly saw a man matching that description getting into a vehicle and stopped it. The New Kensington officer identified the man as “Cutty,” who Arnold police know from other incidents is Chambers.
New Kensington police allegedly saw a large, clear plastic bag containing marijuana inside a front pocket of Chamber’s jeans.
When taken to the New Kensington police station for questioning by Arnold police, Chambers allegedly told an officer, “I ain’t gonna lie, I got a gun on me.”
Officers allegedly found a black Glock 26 9mm in Chambers’ waistband. Police said the gun had a live round in the chamber and 14 live rounds in the magazine.
The gun was later confirmed to have been stolen in Arnold in June 2019.
Police charged Chambers with receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license and drug offenses. He was arraigned Monday before District Judge Frank Pallone, and sent to Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bail.
Chambers is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 24.
