A West Deer man was arrested by Northern Regional Police in Richland Township after a resident reported the man threatened to kill him with a box cutter when he approached his truck to ask if he needed help.

Brett Kreider, 34, of 200 block of McClure Road, was charged with making terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He is being detained in the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 cash bond, according to court records.

Kreider faces a preliminary hearing on the charges before District Judge Tom Swan on Aug. 3.

Police responding to a call for a disturbance in the 4300 block of Grandview Drive at about 9:15 p.m. on July 24 said they found Kreider standing outside his Ford F-150 pickup truck in the middle of the street arguing with several people, according to his arrest papers.

The man who called 911 told an officer that he was at a neighbor’s house when he saw Kreider sitting reclined in his pickup truck and approached the vehicle to ask if he was OK, the complaint said.

He said Kreider uttered a profanity at him, drove off and then repeatedly drove up and down the street, according to the complaint.

The man told police that Kreider was driving erratically and nearly struck a mailbox. He said Kreider also was “yelling at people and videotaping them” as he passed them on the street, the complaint said.

While the man was walking to his house Kreider pulled up to him, got out of his truck holding a box cutter and said: “I’m going to kill you,” the complaint said.

Kreider then told the man he had “something better” and pulled out a knife, according to his arrest papers.

Before be taken into custody, Kreider handed over a knife that he had in his pocket, police said. A box cutter with a yellow handle was found in the drivers side door of his pickup.
