A 24-year-old man allegedly told police he was dealing heroin from his Brackenridge home so he could buy things for two children.
Police charged Marvin Barclay II with two counts of endangering the welfare of children and drug offenses after officers and agents with the state Attorney General Bureau of Narcotics served a search warrant Thursday at his home in the 300 block of Cherry Street.
In the criminal complaint, police said they searched Barclay’s home after twice buying heroin from him there.
According to the criminal complaint, police found two girls, ages 3 and 5, in Barclay’s home, where they also found 19 packets of heroin within their reach.
Police said they also found a glass pipe typically used to smoke marijuana and numerous empty heroin packets on the floor of the master bedroom.
Barclay allegedly told police that a gun was under the bed; police said they found a .380-caliber handgun.
Police said they found small rubber bands used to wrap bundles of heroin in a container under the bed and two scales.
Police said Barclay agreed to talk with officers. Barclay allegedly told them he would buy anywhere from a couple bundles to a “brick” of heroin every couple of days, and that he would use some himself and sell some.
“Marvin Barclay II stated that he did this to obtain monies to purchase items for the children,” police said in the complaint.
When asked about the gun, Barclay allegedly told police that he found the gun “in a brick wall.”
A woman found in the home with Barclay was not charged.
Barclay was arraigned before District Judge Carolyn Bengel and sent to Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh on $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Sept. 23.
