A man’s car caught fire Wednesday night in Tarentum less than a half hour after he picked it up from a Lower Burrell repair shop, Tarentum police said.

Officers responded to a car fire at Nick Chevrolet along West Seventh Avenue around 6:50 p.m.

The man had pulled into the car lot when he realized his car was on fire.

Sgt. Kurt Jendrejewski said no injuries were reported, but the fire caused minor damage to cars in the sales lot.

The driver told police he had valve covers changed on his Chevrolet Cruze at a Lower Burrell garage, and had driven it about 10 minutes when he smelled something burning.

Jendrejewski said the man pulled into the dealership and the car’s engine became fully engulfed.

Firefighters hosed down the car and redirected traffic around the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
