New Kensington police charged a Victoria Avenue man with felony aggravated assault after his girlfriend accused him of breaking her wrist during an argument.

Ernest Darnell Prince, 30, also faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful restraint in connection with the Dec. 5 incident.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges Thursday before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.

Police said Prince was charged after his girlfriend went to the New Kensington police station to file a complaint after being treated for her injuries at the MedExpress in Tarentum, according to a criminal complaint.

The woman’s wrist was bound in a temporary cast that was to be replaced by a permanent cast until it healed, investigators said.

The woman told police that she and Prince, who live together, “had been arguing about infidelity issues and it became violent,” the complaint said.

The woman told police she went back to the house after visiting the emergency clinic but Prince stopped her from leaving again when she indicated she was going to report the incident to police, the complaint said.

She told investigators Prince tried to remove the temporary cast so she couldn’t report what happened to police and that he repeatedly blocked her from leaving the house, according to the complaint.

The woman said she was able to flee the home while Prince showered, and she drove to the police station to file the report, the complaint said.

Prince wasn’t at the residence when police went there but was taken into custody Dec. 21 and released the following day after posting a $50,000 bond, according to court records.
