Allegheny County Police homicide detectives and Springdale police respond to the 1000 block of Pittsburgh Street, near its intersection with Hoeveler Street, Tuesday afternoon.

The death of an infant in Springdale on Tuesday afternoon appears medical in nature, according to authorities that responded to the scene.

Allegheny County Police homicide detectives were requested to the 1000 block of Pittsburgh Street in Springdale at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday. At the site, first responders found an infant not breathing, police said. First responders tried to perform life-saving measures.

The infant was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead, police said.

Upon the initial investigation, detectives found “no obvious signs of foul play,” police said.

Detectives will await a cause and manner of death from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police ask those with information regarding the incident to call their tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
