Kiski Township police say they had to use a Taser to stop a man who fled from a home early Monday morning after throwing a hammer and shards of broken glass at an officer.
An officer responded to a home in the 600 block of Isabella Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. He said he encountered Alfred Steele at his apartment and that Steele appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and hallucinating, Kiski Township police said in a news release.
While speaking with police, Steele threw a hammer that nearly struck the officer, according to the release. The hammer shattered a window and Steele began throwing large pieces of broken glass at the officer.
Police said Steele crawled through the broken window and fled on foot toward Apollo. The officer caught up with Steele several blocks away and used a Taser to subdue him and take him into custody, according to the release.
Drug paraphernalia was found on Steele when he was searched, according to police.
Steele was charged with resisting arrest, simple assault, disorderly conduct, loitering, prowling at night, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.
