Police on Monday at the scene in Springdale, where a man and a woman were found shot to death.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people found dead Monday in a Springdale house as Robert Devaughn Williams, 36, of New Kensington and Morgan Kurpakus, 24, of Springdale.

Their bodies were discovered after 3:30 p.m. Monday in a house in the 1000 of block of Pittsburgh Street. They suffered apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

County Police Sgt. Todd Dolfi said the bodies were found by an individual doing a maintenance check at the apartment. Dolfi said police could not confirm the relationship between Williams and Kurpakus.

Allegheny County Police Inspector Michael Peairs said county police continue to investigate, but have no further details at this time.

Police swarmed the area Monday after the bodies were found. Nearby Hoeveler Street was blocked with police tape for almost a block from its intersection with Pittsburgh Street as investigators swept the area for evidence.

A resident of another apartment in the building where the deaths occurred, Ricky Silva, said he was not allowed back into his residence for hours while police investigated. He said the building is divided into five apartments.

The deaths shook those in the neighborhood.

“I can’t believe it. I’m in shock. The loss of life,” Silva said.
