Allegheny County Police detectives are investigating the death of a 5-year-old girl in Springdale on Tuesday morning.

A 5-year-old girl died Tuesday morning after she was found unresponsive at a home in Springdale, leaving a tight-knit neighborhood in shock.

According to Allegheny County Police, the girl was found about 8:45 a.m. at a row house in the 40 block of Duquesne Court.

Allegheny County Police detectives are investigating.

The child was taken to an area hospital, where she later was pronounced dead. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives were still in the area until about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Allegheny County Police referred late Tuesday to the medical examiner’s impending news release.

No one answered the door at the home where investigators were seen earlier in the day entering and exiting.

“It’s just sad … we’re all going to hold our kids closer tonight,” said Jessica Schafer, who lives on Duquesne Court.

Schafer said the news left her stunned.

“I’m just sick about it. … I’m speechless,” she said.

Neighbor Amber Glaser said she, along with her neighbors, are in shock.

“There was a lot of craziness that happened and I tried to see what was going on, and was just told that one of our neighbors, the little girl, just passed away,” Glaser said.

Glaser said she did not know the girl, and was not close with the family.

“I feel so sorry, and I give my condolences to the family,” she said.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
